GROUP EXHIBITION Lionel DOUCET, Lyse LEMIEUX, Debra SHERWOOD

SURREY ART GALLERY

September 8- 30, 1984 Surrey, BC, CA Curator: Jane Young

The works in this exhibition by four young sculptors,Lionel Doucette and Lyse Lemieux of Vancouver, and Walter Lieberman and Debra sherwood of Seattle, consist of figurative motifs and other examples of representational imagery. Common characteristics and strategies include themes of political and/or social significance, or personal responses to public events; a rigorous staged presentation of the work; odd scale relationships; portrayals of emotions of anger, confusion or outrage; and a pervasive use of allegory. “ - Excerpt, Exhibition essay by Jane Young, Curator.
